Rich History

You will find many historical sites related to South Africa’s civil and political movements in Cape Town. Robben Island is a place where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for eighteen years by the Dutch. As you return to the city, you can visit District Six, which was once Cape Town’s soul. You can get information about the trials and tribulations of this area here. Once a booming area, home to 60,000 immigrants and merchants, it is now barren land. The apartheid law forcibly removed and relocated families to the Cape Flats. It was made a white-only sector, and later all the buildings and properties were destroyed.
