Typically, dogs have a life span of 10 to 13 years.
However, there are some dog breeds that outlive their counterparts.
Generally, it is the smaller dog breeds that long way past the average life span. Larger dogs tend to grow up faster and, in some cases, develop conditions like tumors and cancer. They also tend to get age-related conditions like arthritis.

1. Australian Cattle Dogs
These dogs are a rare large-sized breed that lives very long. Their life span is 13 to 15 years. An Australian Cattle dog named Bluey was the longest living dog in the world. He lived for 29 years.
This is an old dog breed. Beagle is derived from the French word “Bee Gueuele,” which means “wide throat” or “loudmouth”. This breed is known to bark and howl, and be vocal. Since it is a medium-sized dog, it lives on for at least 12 years. The oldest beagle was known to have lived for 27 years.
3. Lhasa Apso
This is an ancient dog breed from Tibet. Even though it is a small breed, it has been used as a guard dog in Tibetan monasteries and palaces. It is a friendly dog breed and lives on average 12 to 14 years. A few of the dogs can live on for two decades.

Shih Tzu is also an ancient dog. The name of the dog means “lion” in Chinese. It was kept by the Royalty in China for centuries. This dog breed is friendly to everyone, sweet and fluffy. For obvious reasons, they don’t make good watchdogs. They don’t have any major health problems; you just need to groom them frequently. They live for 18 years, which is a lot longer than other breeds.
8. Jack Russell Terrier
This dog breed is also medium-sized. It is originated from England. Jack Russell Terriers are energetic and cute dogs that can spend the entire day outdoors. They live anywhere from 16 to 20 years. It is probably their high energy and good health that keeps them alive and well for so long.
9. Toy Poodle
Poodle mix and all poodle dogs live relatively longer than normal dogs. They can live for 14 to 18 years if well taken care of. Like other breeds, toy poodles are intelligent and fairly easy to train. They are sweet and beautiful dogs. They enjoy plenty of mental and physical exercises such as brisk walks or games. They are great as family dogs and good with children.
